‘As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the LORD. They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians’? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!”’ (Exodus 14:10 & 11)
Reflecting on these scriptures lately, I find the relevancy to my own life. I have found myself asking, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt?” I can hear the fear, desperation, doubt and lack of trust in their words. I can hear them wanting what was familiar and known.
I can relate.
God has placed a seemingly impossible calling on our lives. It is against the norm; it is way out of our comfort zone and I struggle with wanting the familiar and known. Sometimes, we feel terrified and fearful to pursue the calling. Daily we stand at our ‘Red Sea’ and call out to the LORD.
The details are not important. I doubt that all ‘crossings’ are the same. I am defining a ‘crossing’ as a leading designed by God to take us out of slavery and into His freedom. Where the journey is orchestrated to remove any binds that hold us from God’s best for us; for Him and for His kingdom purposes.
The ‘crossing’ is not meant for us to do alone. The Israelites would have drowned in their own efforts had they tried.
‘Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”’ (Exodus 14: 13 & 14).
While standing at our Red Sea we have learned that we need to TRUST HIM; STAND FIRM; and BE STILL. That we need to let Him part the waters and as He does, we need to take a step and journey over into the Promise Land.
I believe….. that our God will bring us deliverance!!
‘Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the LORD drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided, and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left.’ (Exodus 14: 21 & 22)
I believe…..that He will fight for us!!
‘Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at daybreak the sea went back to its place. The Egyptians were fleeing toward it, and the LORD swept them into the sea. The water flowed back and covered the chariots and horsemen—the entire army of Pharaoh that had followed the Israelites into the sea. Not one of them survived.’ (Exodus 14: 27 & 28)
What is your, ‘crossing’?
What is it that God has called you to attend to; to pursue…?
What holds you back? What keeps you standing there and looking behind at the army against you or ahead to the deep waters before you?
Dear Heavenly and Gracious Father,
What a privilege to serve You; our Abba, Father. It’s truly what we want to do. Help us Lord, to not even see the armies raging against us or the impossible passages. Instead help us to see our ‘crossings’ as opportunities for You to reveal Yourself and Your ways to us! We no longer want to be slaves but have freedom in You. We will trust You because You are trustworthy. We will have faith because You are faithful. We will stand firm in the great I AM and be still knowing that You will deliver us!!
