Young women don’t forget their jewelry, do they? Brides don’t show up without their veils, do they? But my people forget me. Day after day after day they never give me a thought. (Jeremiah 2:32)
Ladies, for just a moment, close your eyes. I want you to visualize the person that you would consider to be the most beautiful person you know.
Now really think about what makes this person beautiful? Is it their hair or eye color? Their complexion? Is it their size or their height? Is it their style in clothes? The way they accessorize? Is it maybe a combination of all of the above? What is it that makes this person so incredibly captivating?
Now, what would happen if you lost your sight; if you could no longer see their outer beauty? Would their inner beauty resonate to match their external appearance? Or would you think they were maybe in desperate need of a make-over?
God does not view things the way we do. People look on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7b)
God uses all kinds of people. Take a look at David. In God’s eyes, David was a young boy serving Him with his whole heart in the backwoods of Bethlehem. Society saw David as an awkward teenager that smelled like sheep…..Yet, “the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one.” (1 Samuel 16:12) God saw what no one else saw: a heart that followed hard after His.
Now…..consider yourself. Are you focusing so much attention on what you look like on the outside that you are neglecting the very important need to cultivate the beauty within your heart? Are you spending adequate time in prayer, reading the bible and fellowshipping with fellow believers to enhance the beauty of your heart?
God is desperate for our hearts to be beautiful. It does not matter to Him at all what color our hair or eyes are, what color our skin is, if we are thin or plus-sized, if we wear the coolest trends or yesterday’s fads, or whether our earrings match our outfit. God cares about our heart; our inner beauty. He wants our thoughts to be on Him, not on how we look.
Take a moment and ask God to reveal to you areas of your heart that are needing a make-over. Align your heart with His heart and ask Him to make you into a woman that is beautiful in His image!
Father God, thank you that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Help us to fix our eyes on you, worrying only about the condition of our heart instead of our outward appearance. For the ladies out there reading this that are struggling with the way the appear on the outside….God I pray that you will comfort them with the absolute truth that they are captivating to you and that you love them unconditionally. Heal the wounds that culture has caused by making us feel that we do not measure up by looking a certain way. Let us only look to you for ways to become more lovely. I ask this in Jesus name, Amen.Click HERE to see a great video on beauty!
