“And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.” (1 Peter 5: 10 & 11)
I found myself reflecting on the goodness of our God during this Thanksgiving holiday. My heart overflowed with gratitude as I reminisced over how God has brought forth restoration and healing in a very, difficult season of our marriage.
It wasn’t that long ago, I remember….
We had experienced many, significant losses in a relatively short period. Both of us were so enveloped in our own grief and worries that we were no longer able to hold one another up. Our marriage suffered. To read more about this season click here
If only while going through such a season I could see us at the other end…..
If only I could have viewed those times as opportunity…..
If only I could have known the importance of the journey…..
Perhaps the road wouldn’t have been so difficult.
Sure we cried out to Him; constantly and continually. Sure we determined to follow His ways, certain that He had set them out for us.
Now, looking back though, I see that our prayers were to end the season, not to go through it. We were just waiting and waiting for relief.
Oh, what we would have missed had the journey not begun; had it ended before it was to be.
A faith now that is stronger, unyielding, and steadfast.
A connectedness in our marriage that anchors us as one, even as life happens.
Appropriated leadership and a growing submission for each other.
The removing of rubble meant to block the re-building of the fortified wall around us!
A readiness for more of God’s best for us and His kingdom purposes!!
As I looked all around me, especially this Thanksgiving weekend I saw God’s revelations and the destination is amazing!
Hands held in unison. Evidence of a marriage restored and strengthened – OURS!-
So perhaps, the next time the journey begins we can see it for what it is—an opportunity for God to reveal Himself and work on our behalf! He is responding…..
Dear Heavenly and Gracious Father,Thank You Lord, God for the journey. Help us to praise You and thank You in all things! May Your kingdom come; may Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10). Help us to remember and trust that You are with us in our journey; that You will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5)! That we are victorious in You (Romans 8:37)! That the suffering may last for a little while but on the other side we will be strong, firm and steadfast (1 Peter 5: 10 & 11)!! In Jesus’ name with pray. Amen.
