{Marriage} A setting for two (or three)!

By: Mandy Hill

Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4:12

Well sisters, I have never done this before…..but I am here again to bring you another post today. I felt God impress on my heart two very separate topics….and I felt an urgency that they both be shared today. So, here I am again!

As you know from some of my recent {faith} posts, my husband and I recently purchased a new home. In our new home is a special room; a simple room. It is furnished with one love seat, a coffee table, two chairs, a lamp and a fireplace. On the walls hang the pictures of those people who are the highest priority in our lives….our family.

This has become the room where I share my most intimate moments with The Lord. I wake every morning at 6am to read the word and pray. I personally find it works best for me at this time because distractions are minimal. After 7:15am, there are many tiny hands and voices vying for my attention. This may not work for everyone- but I find it works best for me.

It is in this room where I truly begin my day. I brew myself a cup of delicious hot coffee (stirred with a beautifully flavoured creamer, of course) and as I sip and wake up….I feed my soul with the word of God.

I can’t think of a better way to protect my marriage than covering it with prayer and filling my soul with the promises of God on a daily basis. While it is important to do these things together, I believe there must be some work done individually first, so that when we come together we can focus on moving forward….and not depending on one another to be fed. Seeking God as an individual before coming together as a team is like the primer on a beautifully painted room.

With God truly working as The Lord of our marriage, we can withstand the storms of life. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4:12

Father God, thank you for your word and the promises that you have given to us there. Thank you for the special moments that you have given to me as an individual in my special room; as your daughter. I pray that as I come together with my husband we can truly focus on a new level of intimacy with you. That as I do the work as an individual to prime the walls, together as a cord of three strands we will create a masterpiece of colour. Jesus be with us as we grow in you both as individuals, and as a couple. I pray this all in your name, Jesus, amen.
