So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness (Colossians 2:6-11).
I know that I have written about this before, but I have been really impressed upon to share it again. Is God enough for you?!
The answer is a strong yes, of course. But there’s an element of faith on your part that will truly allow God to be enough for you. You see, if you only give God a fraction of your heart and life to fulfill…He will only fulfill that fraction. He leaves it up to us; what portion are you allowing him to fill up? Are you giving Him access to all areas of your life?; or are you holding some back?
As wives, one of the toughest things I believe we face is getting caught up in cultures expectations of our spouses. We so easily fall into the trap of expecting our husbands to fill up our lives with love, romance, and joy. Yet, we know that the only one who can perfect any of these gifts is our Lord and Saviour.
So, why do we always find ourselves back to this place of wanting, expecting?!
Well sisters, we are humans. Culture and media are everywhere and if we are not careful, unfortunately our culture’s idea of what we need starts to win over the truth. It is important to educate ourselves on the promises and truths of God’s word- every single day!!! “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist…” (Ephesians 6:13-14) Also, get to know God by communing with Him daily. You can’t really call someone you’re ‘everything’ if you don’t know talk to them! So, make it a priority to talk to Jesus everyday as well.
It is when we allow God to take the number one spot in our heart, that we can truly find ourselves expectation-less. From that, our marriages are certain to flourish and grow as the pressure is removed from our spouse to fulfill, because we already ARE, and the focus can be placed instead on growing together in love.
Doesn’t that sound amazing?! It’s not unattainable, sister. Give God His rightful spot in your life and see how everything else falls into place. Jesus IS enough!
Jesus, thank you that you are enough. I pray, Jesus, that we will not fall into the way of the world in believing the lie that a man can fill our every need. Jesus, we know that you are the only one that brings life, joy, peace and love and that it is when we allow you to fill us up with these things we can only then give from your abundance within us. I pray that my sisters and I will strive to live a life completely devoted to seeking you and finding fulfillment in you. We love you, Jesus. Amen.
