{Faith} But it’s too late…

By Cindy Morrone

“One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Christ? Save yourself and us!” But the other criminal rebuked him, “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus answered him, “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.”” (Luke 23: 39-43)

This is my Jesus….

He was born of a virgin in a lowly manger. He “grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him”. (Luke 2: 40) Baptized by John, the Holy Spirit descended on Him like a dove and His Father declared that He was well pleased and loved Him (Luke 3:21 & 22). Led by the Spirit, He spent time in the desert, and was tempted by the devil. He fasted for forty days and nights (Matthew 4:1 & 2). He began His ministry thereafter and began to preach, teach, bless, heal, serve and show us, the glory of the One and Only!

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling amoung us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14)

In today’s highlighted scripture, we are brought to the end of His life.

A death so horrendous, I dare not even attempt to pen; it’s beyond my feeble comprehension.

Words like betrayed, deserted, arrested, denied, mocked, insulted, accused, forsaken, spit upon, struck and slapped, flogged, stripped, wore a crown of thorns, mocked, beaten, crushed, crucified and pierced are found in the Bible to describe His death.

This is my Jesus….

And somehow an accused criminal in the last moments of his life, also hanging on a cross, saw his own sin, “for we are getting what our deeds deserve” (Luke 23:41) and recognized his Saviour, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” (Luke 23:42).

It wasn’t too late for him as Jesus answered, ““I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.”” (Luke 23: 43).

It wasn’t too late….

It wasn’t too late for this man to see the ultimate sacrifice and surrender his life to the only One that saves.

This is my Jesus….

Dear friends in the Lord, do you have unsaved loved ones? Is your heart aching for those who do not yet know Jesus; for those who know of Him but have not called Him Lord and Saviour? I do too. Ones I care so deeply about. It’s not too late. Let’s continue to pray and cry out on their behalf. Share with them our Jesus and how He saved us.

Dear Heavenly and Gracious Father,

Lord, God thank You for the cross; the ultimate sacrifice; the price paid for our salvation. We pray Lord that You would help us to truly understand this kind of love and forgiveness. Our hearts cry out to You for our loved ones. We pray Lord that they too would know Your kind of love and forgiveness. And may we never give up hope in the saving grace that has appeared to all men. In Jesus’ name we pray in confidence. Amen.
