For us, some time ago it was big hair, high waisted pants, with “Deep River Woman” by Lionel Richie, playing on his Mustang’s car stereo with the smell of Giorgio perfume for me and Quorum for him. These are all memories from our dating years. (LOL!)
Wait for it….oh, yeah, I went there!
Remember when…remember when he called and you would near jump when the phone rang in anticipation and then you talked for hours? Recall your first date, second and third? What was the first gift he ever gave to you? Remember him reaching for your hand and the thrill that ran through you? Reminisce (indulge in pleasurable recollection of past happenings) the moments. Remember when he asked you to date and then to marry him? What were you wearing? What did he say? Where were you? Who was the first to hear your engagement news? And your wedding day….Do you remember the look on his face when he first saw you come down the aisle? Remember standing in front of your loved ones with the love of your life standing in front of you proclaiming his love, commitment and devotion to you. Recall your honeymoon and the very first intimate moments. Think on your family and how God delivered them to you and how you experienced the miracle of new life together.
Remember your first fight over something now, realized as trivial. Remember your first real fight?! When it seemed like reconciliation was not attainable. Then forgiveness came through. Think on your most difficult times as a couple. It’s ok; these are the things that make us stronger. Remember how it seemed impossible to overcome in the moment but here you are today, overcomers!! Think on your losses; that’s ok too, these memories just help us to never forget what’s really important.
Remember that your God has been with you….
“Bless the LORD, O my soul,
And all that is within me, bless His holy name.
Bless the LORD, O my soul,
And forget none of His benefits;
Who pardons all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases;
Who redeems your life from the pit.
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and compassion;
Who satisfies your years with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle.” (Psalm 103: 1-5)
This Valentine’s Day….remember! Remember what has made you the couple you are today. Recall why you first fell in love with your husband and rejoice and celebrate in God’s goodness shown to you throughout your married years!
Dear Heavenly and Gracious Father,
Thank You for the gift of joy in the remembering! Thank You that You do satisfy our years with good things (Psalm 103:5). Let us have thankful and grateful hearts as we reminisce about our marriages. Thank You for our husbands Lord; may You bless them ten-fold! Bless our marriages. Where there is unforgiveness; help us to forgive; where there is no romance; bring it back so it can’t be ignored and where there is no peace let Yours surpass. I pray all these things in Jesus’ name. Amen.
