{Parenting} A Grandparent’s Love

By: Cindy Morrone

“Tell it to your children, and let your children tell it to their children, and their children to the next generation.” (Joel 1:3)

As I write, I can hear small, sweet voices of my girlies and the clanging of a spoon on a bowl. They are in our kitchen making cupcakes with their Nana. I can hear them sharing so much, a freedom and a trust that is unconditional. My Mama has been making desserts with them since they could hold a spoon. A sacrifice of love with messes that abound! As they share, my daughters witness a gentle and mature love that bends more on ease, than rules. These encounters are like icing on the cake (with lots and lots and lots and lots of sprinkles!!)

With their Grandpa, stories are shared and imaginations run wild. Fool’s gold is found on the remnants of a pirate ship washed up at sea. Tales and mysteries evolve in the security of wisdom from someone who has lived a bit longer. Time spent with him is an exhibition of light-heartedness in the everyday.

Our daughters behold their grandparent’s shared faith and reliance on God, an ever growing relationship. And they benefit from this sharing by learning God’s most holy precepts. They perceive a deep love that is unconditional, a joy and peace refined by time and experience.

Our girlies are so blessed to have such grandparents! Watching them with our daughters makes me look that much more forward to the day when someone will call me, “Nana!”

Thank you Mom and Dad!

Dear Heavenly and Gracious Father,
Thank You Lord God for the gift of grandparents! They truly are a treasure! We pray Lord, God that You would strengthen our relationships to be a light of joy and hope for generations to come! Let us be bold in our relationship with You as Christ-followers and pass down from time to time, the all saving knowledge of Jesus, Christ. Help us to not take each other for granted and love those very ones You have ordained in our midst. We pray all this in Your Son’s holy and precious name. Amen!!
