They practice their piano near everyday as instructed by their teacher. They set a timer for the designated minutes and go through her list of songs and scales. Over and over the keys are played and the melodies fill the room. The songs now recognizable are performed in ordered notes. This has been happening for a couple of years now.
“Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.” (Ephesians 6:4)
Once the practice is satisfactorily done, we have started to provide room for ‘composing’…..
This is the time when they can depart from the restraint of the written note and play out what’s in their own minds and hearts. These are moments we allow for creativity and individuality; where they can become in tune with their own music.
“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10)
Our precious ones may never compose their own concerto but this habit of becoming in sync with their God-given ability in practice, can be far reaching. Whether it is in music, athletics, art, the written word, the study of nature or another, the Holy Spirit can use these moments to lead, guide and direct for the Lord’s glory.
It’s so difficult for us to ‘let go’ and not impose our own restrictions or expectations. But this is a rehearsal that cannot be taught, only honoured. So we too need to be lead by the Holy Spirit and make room for His promptings and offer a buffet of occasion. And let our children shine in their own God lead paths, being the masterpieces that they are!
Dear Heavenly and Gracious Father,
You have knit us together and created us in Your image for a purpose. Thank You for the precious gift of children. We continue to ask You to lead, guide and direct us in their care. We continue to ask for Your wisdom in their nurturing. Help us to lay down any perceived notions that we have for them and allow for the Holy Spirit’s working in their lives. All this for Your glory and honour!! In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
