{Faith} Words.

By: Mandy Hill

Words are incredibly powerful things.

Words have the ability to build someone up. They have the ability to bring encouragement, joy, or peace. The have the power to comfort during loss, and bring resolution and forgiveness to a difficult situation. Words have the power to induce a smile.

Words also have the power to tear someone down. They have the ability to bring discouragement, sadness, or discord. They have the ability to make loss more difficult, and could potentially destroy a relationship. Words have the power to create tears.

Words.

Such simple things; yet some of the most powerful tools we have at our disposal.

I recently came across this quote written by one of my most favourite authors. I absolutely love how she worded this very truth:

“Refusing to gossip is a beautiful decision to make. It not only creates richer friendships but, more importantly, it makes our relationship with The Lord more authentic and believable. We honor God when we honor each other.” Lysa TerKeurst

I’d love for you to reread that quote a time or two. Really let those words make an imprint on your heart.

Sisters, we honor GOD, when we honor each other. When we speak kindly to each other; when we choose to encourage and lift one another up; when we choose to bless each other with kudos and affirmation; we honor Him.

Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.” (Ephesians 4:29)

This verse can be taken a lot of ways….but I don’t necessarily think that Paul was referring to cuss words. 🙂 More so, I believe that Paul was referring to how we talk to, and about one another. Our words are powerful, whether you choose to use them for good purposes, or otherwise.

Some people make cutting remarks, but the words of the wise bring healing. (Proverbs 12:18)

How will you choose to use your words today?! Will you encourage someone, or are you plotting to give someone a piece of your mind?

Above all, will your words honor God?

Thank You, God, for Your word and for the plethora of wisdom tucked within its pages. Thank You, God, that Your word is alive and relevant to our lives today; regardless of its age. Please help us to choose our words carefully. God, please fill our minds with wise words, so that when we speak, Your voice will be heard. I pray these things in Your precious and holy name, amen.
