{Marriage} There’s no turning back

By: Cindy Morrone

Does it seem that you struggle with the same issue/s over and over in your marriage? That the same argument comes up all the time? That despite your best efforts to prevent it from occurring again it happens anyway.

My husband and I can get caught up in this trap too. Where we think that because the seemingly same trial is repeated over and over in our marriage, that we haven’t made any progress; any advances in our relationship. But nothing could be further from the Truth.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

The Word tells us that because we are in Christ we are made new! Us and our spouses!

Yes, we will still sin, affecting our unity but less and less frequently as we mature in Christ. With every reconciliation, we step closer and closer to a purer unity. And with God we will never start back at the beginning, this is impossible for a new creation.

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1)

So, every argument, disagreement, or struggle can be used as opportunity to draw nearer and nearer to each other and our God. As we allow Him to continue to work in our weaknesses for healing and restoration.

So let’s choose opportunity and seeing things God’s way!

“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” (Colossians 2:6)

Dear Heavenly and Gracious Father,
Thank You for the precious, gift of marriage. Lord, God we ask that You would help us to see things as You do. Help us to not get caught in a trap of hopelessness and defeat in our marriages but instead see the Truth as in Your Word. And every opportunity to grow closer in unity with You and our spouses be taken by prayer and a reliance on You. We pray these things in Your Son’s holy and precious name. Amen.
