{Girl Edition} Surrender.

Written by: Megan Kincheloe

Surrender. This is a word that causes me to cringe each time it comes upon my ears. Google lists several synonyms for the word such as to ‘give in,’ ‘yield,’ ‘concede,’ ‘submit,’ or ‘back down.’ For someone who has issues with control, none of these words ‘feel good.’ There is a difference between surrendering to man and surrendering to God. Surrendering to man might mean not standing up for something you believe in, or compromising your values because they are different than your friends. Surrendering to man might mean giving in to peer pressure even when your spirit tells you to stand firm. Surrendering to man might look like siding with the popular vote, even when every ounce of your being reminds you that your vote, though different, could make a positive difference in the world.

Surrendering to God is much different. You see, when you ‘give in’ to God, you are making a choice to have faith, even in the unseen. When you ‘concede’ to God, you are showing Him that you believe His ways are higher than your ways. When you ‘submit’ to God, you are saying, “God, I trust you in all things.” When you ‘back down’ to God, you are admitting to Him that you fully believe He knows best.

Sweet girls, now is the time to begin the process of surrendering in your lives. I can promise you that the older you get…and the more set in your ways you get…the more difficult this process becomes. Surrendering means to lay down your plans and your burdens at the foot of the cross. Each time you are tempted to pick them back up, remind yourself to lay them back down.

When you are feeling you aren’t enough…SURRENDER those thoughts to God.

When you are struggling in a relationship…SURRENDER that relationship to God.

When you are having difficulty in school…SURRENDER your education to God.

When you haven’t been asked to the prom…SURRENDER your sadness to God.

When you are overwhelmed with your to do list…SURRENDER that list to God.

When a friend hurts you…SURRENDER that hurt to God.

When a loved one has passed or is very sick…SURRENDER that fear and worry to God.

In making a conscious effort to surrender, you are saying, “God, I can’t…but You can.” Ask Him to show you the next step and to hold your hand down that path. Be bold and ask Him to close the doors in your life that were never meant to open in the first place. And then trust. Trust that He knows what the road ahead looks like and that He has already been there and paved the way.

Deuteronomy 31:8 says, “Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.”

Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Surrender, precious souls…do not let any burden you are carrying hold you back from being great. You are treasured daughters of the King and He has great plans for you.
