“Let me explain further. Live your life as the Holy Spirit directs you. Then you will never follow through on what your flesh wants.” Galatians 5:16
Have you ever had to ‘speak the truth in love’ to someone. Is it easier, or harder for you to speak truth ‘in love’ to your spouse?
My guess is that you are much quicker to speak ‘truth’ to your spouse than you are to anyone else. Maybe a higher level of comfort, is to blame? Perhaps, you feel closer and more justified to be the messenger of truth in some situations? Perhaps your increased comfort and quickness to share the truth doesn’t always leave room for the ‘in love’ part….
As believers in Jesus Christ, we invite the Holy Spirit to come into our lives and guide/direct us on our life journeys. As we grow in Him we grow in our ability to discern His voice and respond to His callings. “Let me explain further. Live your life as the Holy Spirit directs you. Then you will never follow through on what your flesh wants.” Galatians 5:16
Of course it is our desire to follow the will of God for our own lives; we would not be Christians if we desired to walk in another direction. What about when it comes to The Lord’s will for our spouses? Do we respond with the same support and desire to follow? Or, are we quick to examine and decide how their callings mesh with ours; How they fit into our schedules?
Sisters, I encourage you to be extra cautious when sharing truth in love with your spouse. Be sure your motives are being led by the Holy Spirit and not by your own flesh. Let the Holy Spirit do His job and be extra cautious never to assume His role. The enemy would like nothing better than for your fleshy interjections to make a mess of the miraculous intentions of The Lord.
“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” Philippians 4:8
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the guidance and direction of Your wonderful Holy Spirit! We stand in full adoration and praise You for this beautiful gift. I pray that we will give careful thought to whom we allow the most weight in our decision-making. Please help us be mindful of the authority You have in our lives; as well as the authority that You have in our spouses lives. Please let us never overstep any words You speak to us or to our husbands. We choose to hold you in the highest place! In Your precious and holy name, I pray, amen.
