{Marriage} Stop Praying For Your Circumstances To Change.

Written By: Mandy Lawrence-Hill

Yes, you read that right.

Please stop praying for your circumstances to change….and start seeking The Lord on how YOU can change.

I have seen this take place so many times along our journey in ministry; and admittedly in my own marriage as well. We go through these times of discontentment, troublesome situations and unhappiness in our marriages. Yet, oftentimes, instead of assessing our own hearts we point the finger on others.

Are you currently unhappy with your spouse?! Instead of asking God to change your situation, or asking God to change your spouse; why don’t you try asking God how he can change YOU, instead.

I understand that this approach is very hard on the pride; but God often uses unpleasant circumstances to mould and shape our character into one that more resembles His own. …And isn’t that our main goal; to be more Christlike?

It should be.

Friends, stop wasting so much time trying to change your circumstances to suit your own desires. Your circumstances may or may not be reconciled in the near future. When praying, ask The Lord to identify if there is something YOU could be doing differently in your relationship. Don’t focus on your negative emotions regarding your marriage….focus on the good and go from there. Ask God to show you your circumstances from a new perspective, and trust that He will be faithful to restore your connection.

May God himself, the God who makes everything holy and whole, make you holy and whole, put you together—spirit, soul, and body—and keep you fit for the coming of our Master, Jesus Christ. The One who called you is completely dependable. If he said it, he’ll do it! (‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5‬:‭23-24‬ MSG)

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of marriage. Please keep us mindful of that fact- that it is a gift. Please help us make wise decisions, not emotionally driven ones, and please also keep our hearts open to seeing when we are at fault in all situations. I pray that You will continue to bless and keep our marriages. In Jesus name, Amen.
